Twitterville Talk #13

It's been a very busy, exciting three day back-to-school week loaded with news about books and reading, insight into apps for children's book and online resources.

One of the fastest and best ways to let people know about a good book you've read is by telling them in person.  News spreads very quickly from person to person; even faster now with all the social networks.

Share the Love--Talk About Books! from YALSA The Hub speaks to some new good titles and places where more can be found.

Another interesting article, Seven Books That Changed the Way I See the World by Joel Bruns at The Hub purposes each of us listing those titles that still haunt us years after the final page was turned.  What books changed your thinking; your mind's eye?

dot.Momming is a blog that covers children's book apps.

This blog, Happy Birthday Author, has so many uses at home and in the classroom.  Chock full of information about authors and illustrators on their birthdays, it is the perfect avenue for bringing good books to children.  Who doesn't like to celebrate?
Thanks to A Fuse #8 Production at the School Library Journal blog for these links.

School Library Journal started a blog this week which will host discussions about possible Newbery Award candidates.  This blog, Heavy Medal: A Mock Newbery Blog, would be an excellent starting place for hosting your own Mock Newbery Award election or discussion.

Via The Pigeon three of the Pigeon books will be appearing on DVD soon.  Check out this sneak peek.

What a neat idea!  Mo Willems posted his family's dining room doodles made during dinner.

Constitution Day is September 17, 2011; to be celebrated and observed on September 16, 2011.  Richard Byrne of Free Technology for Teachers recommended Weekly Reader's web site titled The Law of the Land for interactive lessons and games.
In trying to find a link to that site that worked, I came across another page with numerous activity and lesson plan links created by Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, Constitution Day.

As a companion to topics posted at School Library Journal's newest blog, Heavy Medal, The Horn Book  is hosting a new blog titled, Calling Caldecott.  For those interested in running their own Mock Caldecott Election, which we do every year at Charlevoix Elementary School, this is a great resource.

The Horn Book also has a brand new web site worth your time to visit.

It's My Party:  An Interview with Maurice Sendak by Leonard S. Marcus is an interesting conversation with a gifted artist at The Horn Book web site.  Sendak has a new title, Bumble-Ardy which was released September 6, 2011.  Thanks to Publishers Weekly Children's Bookshelf for the link.
